Vadim was born in Kostopil on March 7, 1998. He studied at city school No. 8 and later at school No. 3. After finishing his education, he began working, primarily in construction and repair work.

Vadim was mobilized in the fall of 2024 during a work trip. Initially, he underwent training in Zhytomyr region, and then he went to serve in Dnipro. In the summer of 2025, his unit was redeployed to Sumy region, where Vadim became the commander of an artillery platoon.

“Vadim was on leave only once; he came home for our eldest daughter’s first bell ceremony. We communicated every day, and he always informed me when he was going on duty and that there would be no communication for some time. He was a wonderful dad and a loving husband,” said Vadim’s wife, Olga Mykhnych.

Shortly after this, representatives from the military enlistment office came to Olga and informed her of her husband’s death. Vadim Mykhnych was killed on February 1, 2026, in a combat zone near Radkivka in Sumy region. He is survived by a sister, a wife, and two young daughters.

On Saturday, February 7, the Kostopil community will bid farewell to their defender.

  • 08:20 — the funeral procession will enter Kostopil and move through the streets Rivnenska–Nova–Kopernika–Skladova–Dereviana.
  • 10:30 — memorial service at home (Dereviana St., 154).
  • 11:00 — funeral service at the Church of Peter and Paul.

After the funeral service, the procession will walk to T.H. Shevchenko Square, where a citywide farewell will take place. The deceased will be buried at the “New” cemetery in Kostopil.
