Details of the Incident

According to the verdict, the events unfolded on September 4 around 02:00 at the “Dikiy” market located on Zdolbunivska Street. Firefighters, upon receiving a report of the fire, quickly extinguished the flames in the kiosks.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered that prior to the arson, unknown individuals had assaulted the market guard. After this, the perpetrators doused car tires on the roof of one of the kiosks with a flammable mixture and set them on fire. The flames spread to the walls of two neighboring retail outlets, causing damages amounting to 482,000 UAH.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Five days after the incident, police arrested two men involved in the arson. It turned out that they were servicemen aged 28 and 29. According to the investigation, they did not act alone, but no other accomplices have been identified so far.

During the court proceedings, the defendants confirmed that the arson was premeditated but did not explain why they decided to take such a step. They also noted that they had fully compensated the owner for the damages incurred and requested to be punished with a fine.

Judge Yevheniy Sydoruk found the servicemen guilty of intentional destruction of property by arson, committed in conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Based on this, a fine of 170,000 UAH was imposed on each. The verdict may still be appealed.
