In Rivne, the 100th Anniversary of Symon Petliura’s Death is Honored

On May 25 at 1:00 PM, a memorial event titled “Rivne Remembers, Rivne Honors” will take place at the Ulas Samchuk Literary Museum.

This event is dedicated to the memory of Symon Petliura, a prominent Ukrainian statesman, military leader, and political figure who became a key figure in the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921.

It was on May 25, 1926, that Petliura was killed in Paris as a result of a gunshot wound. His death became one of the most resonant events in Ukrainian political emigration during the interwar period. In historical science, this assassination is considered one of the actions of Soviet special services aimed at Ukrainian liberation movement leaders.

As part of the memorial event, there will be speeches by historians, museum workers, local historians, educators, representatives of national and cultural societies, and artists. Participants will discuss the state, military, and socio-political activities of Symon Petliura, as well as his connections with Volhynia and Rivne region.

During the event, musical pieces dedicated to the era of the Ukrainian Revolution and the memory of Symon Petliura will be performed. Additionally, thematic materials highlighting the struggle of the UPR leaders for Ukraine’s independence will be presented.
